The sacred festival of Rathyatra, one of India’s most revered celebrations, symbolizes devotion, unity, humility, and universal brotherhood. Upholding its commitment to preserving India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, SGVP International School celebrated this auspicious occasion with immense reverence and enthusiasm through a thoughtfully planned morning assembly that beautifully reflected the essence of Lord Jagannath’s divine journey.
The celebration began with a serene prayer, invoking the blessings of the Almighty and setting a spiritually uplifting tone for the event. This was followed by a brief introduction that acquainted the audience with the significance of Rathyatra, its historical importance, and the timeless values it represents. The dignitaries and guests were then warmly welcomed, marking the beginning of a memorable cultural celebration.
Students enthralled the audience with a soulful musical performance, filling the atmosphere with devotional melodies dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Their heartfelt rendition created an ambience of peace, devotion, and divine bliss. The highlight of the cultural presentations was an impressive skit on “Jagannath Rahasya,” which beautifully portrayed the fascinating legends, traditions, and spiritual symbolism. Through confident performances and meaningful dialogues, the students captivated the audience while conveying profound spiritual messages.
Adding to the sanctity of the occasion, the campus resonated with the powerful chanting of sacred Vedic mantras, accompanied by the auspicious Shankhnaad (conch blowing). The divine sound echoed across the school, creating an atmosphere of purity and spiritual awakening, reminding everyone of the eternal values of faith and righteousness.
The most awaited moment of the celebration was the magnificent Rath Yatra procession. Beautifully adorned idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra were ceremoniously placed on an exquisitely decorated chariot. Amid devotional chants, rhythmic traditional music, and the enthusiastic participation of students and staff, the chariot was lovingly pulled around the campus. The procession concluded with a solemn Aarti, where prayers were offered with deep devotion, recreating the sacred spirit of the world-famous Puri Rathyatra.
The festivities continued with a vibrant dance performance, where students presented graceful choreography inspired by devotion and Indian cultural traditions. Their energetic performance reflected the joy, colour, and spiritual exuberance associated with the festival, earning warm appreciation from everyone present.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal, Ms. Padma Kumar, offered floral tributes to the deities and shared an inspiring message on the importance of preserving India’s spiritual and cultural legacy. She encouraged students to imbibe values such as humility, compassion, unity, and selfless service, emphasizing that festivals like Rathyatra are powerful mediums for character building and cultural learning.
The celebration concluded on a note of gratitude and spiritual fulfilment. The Rathyatra celebration left every participant inspired, reinforcing the timeless message of faith, harmony, and universal brotherhood.
